When I mention that I am a boudoir photographer, I hear the same questions: “So…you shoot naked women? Isn’t that awkward? Are your clients all models?”
I think boudoir photography gets a bad rap.
People assume that it is going to be dirty, porn-y, and is something that is only done by skinny, model-types.
Let’s clear away some of the misconceptions!
#1: I WILL HAVE TO GET NAKED FOR MY BOUDOIR SHOOT
Boudoir isn’t about nudity. It is about embracing your sexuality and this is different for everyone!
Some women find nudity empowering. For others, they feel sexier when they are more covered up with an outfit they feel amazing in.
Essentially, these images are meant to remind you or your partner of what might be worn behind closed doors.
So no. You do not have to be nude, but you can if you want.
#2: ONLY YOUNG AND SKINNY WOMEN CAN DO BOUDOIR SHOOT
Every woman should do a boudoir session, whether they’re twenty or sixty!
Boudoir is about loving yourself from the inside out and your sexiness has nothing to do with age or size!
Our lives are a constant change of seasons; great joy, extreme pain, amazing success, and horrible tragedy.
Celebrate yourself.
#3: BOUDOIR IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE WITH PARTNERS
If you have a partner it is a fantastic gift but it is so much more than that.
It is a way of pushing your limits, going out of your comfort zone so that you can grow and discover parts of yourself you never knew you had in you.
It’s celebrating who you are in this moment of your life and owning it.
A boudoir shoot is all about embracing all that you are and CELEBRATING it. Loving yourself. Seeing yourself in a new way.
#4: I DON'T KNOW HOW TO BE SEXY, SO I CAN'T DO A BOUDOIR SHOOT
Let me tell you how it is, NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO BE SEXY.
Every woman starts a session full of nervous energy and insecurities but leaves feeling empowered and strong.
